This paper examines the state of civil-military relations in Serbia and the role of opposition parties following the fall of president Slobodan Milosevic. It argues that full democratic control of the military is lacking, and has evolved little from the arrangement under Milosevic. The author concludes that political consensus and a degree of socio-economic equality is, ultimately, a prerequisite for bringing about democratic control of the military.
