This paper examines security and developmental conditions in Kyrgyzstan following its independence from the Soviet Union. It reviews Kyrgyzstan's political climate, foreign policy and military posture. The author calls for the Kyrgyz government to continue its employment of a pragmatic and non-invasive foreign policy, and to focus on developing the tourist, finance and drinking-water industries.
