The publication describes Russia’s push for multilateral and bilateral security cooperation with the states of Central Asian. It focuses on the role of regional institutions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), specifically the military-political dimension. It concludes that the arrival of Vladimir Putin has seen Russia adopt a more active role in the Central Asia region.
