This collection of papers is based on a panel titled "New Orleans and Odessa: Multicultural Centers That Care Never Quite Forgot." The topics include Jewish institutional life in Odessa during the reign of Alexander II, Ukranian national identity, what makes New Orleans different from other parts of the United States, and nationalism vs urban diversity in a context applicable to both cities.
