This note outlines the different types of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE), and weighs the implementation and potential impact of UK and EU legislation. It points out that the UK produces around 15 percent of the EU’s total WEEE. The disposal and low rates of recycling of electronic and electrical appliances, many containing toxic components, may pose an environmental hazard.
