This note reviews the prevalence, possible causes and treatment of eating disorders in the UK, and highlights issues relevant to government policy. It notes that 1.1 million people in the UK are estimated to be directly affected by eating disorders. The paper argues that eating disorders represent a significant public health concern due to their severe physical and emotional consequences and high rate of recurrence.
