This note describes e-science and grids, and details key UK and international projects. It examines the potential impact of the Comprehensive Spending Review on e-science, and wider policy issues such as grid security. It argues governments and industry worldwide are investing heavily to develop grid computing - an evolution of the internet that pools computer resources to process, store and access large amounts of data.
