This note examines progress toward the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of halting the spread of malaria by 2015. It notes malaria is responsible for the deaths of at least one million people every year, most of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa. The greatest death toll occurs in children under five. Despite effective prevention and treatment methods, it argues the burden of malaria remains high.
