This POSTnote examines the nexus between ethnicity and health in the UK. The paper assesses why black and minority ethnic (BME) groups generally have worse health than the overall population, while asserting that the patterns of ethnic health inequalities are very diverse and cannot be neatly laid out. The paper notes that ethnic health inequalities result from many interlinking factors, of which the relative poverty of BME groups is probably the most important. It also outlines key policy responses and initiatives to combat these inequalities.
