This issue of the Canadian Military Journal (CMJ) addresses space policy of two former US presidents and provides the first of two parts examining Canada's Air Force. The authors discuss the role of the NATO Airborne Early Warning Force (NAEWF) as is the role of elite groups within armed forces. The paper also considers the problems associated with coalition task-force operations are and presents an analysis of a Ministry of Defence white paper that argued for nuclear attack submarines in Canada. The Journal also highlights French counterinsurgency warfare in Algeria and Canadian experiences of fighting in urban environments during World War II, before concluding with an article about military operations in Afghanistan and their consequences for future defense policy.
