This brief examines how international aid agencies are supporting Myanmar’s complex transition towards democracy, a market economy and peace. For the transition to work, however, donors must 1) remain conscious of the frailty of the Myanmar state; 2) ensure that “conflict-sensitivity” is mainstreamed into all development programs; 3) strive to work with and engage as broad a range of actors in Myanmar as possible; and 4) commit to the country for the long-term.
