This publication analyzes drivers of displacement in Africa and the security threats these population movements pose to the continent. Key insights include 1) that the primary drivers of forced displacement in Africa are conflict and repressive governance; 2) the population flows are likely to increase with the expected population growth and environmental pressures; 3) as a response, actors on local, national, regional, as well as international levels should engage in actions addressing the drivers of the crisis rather than penalizing displaced people, and more.
