According to this brief, non-African and African soldiers perform unequal functions in the UN stabilization mission in Mali (MINUSMA). While European forces populate the mission’s headquarters in Bamako, African soldiers are permanently deployed in the country’s most dangerous areas, often without proper equipment. In response to this situation, the text’s authors recommend a number of ways to upend it, despite the numerous factors that stand in the way.
