This publication explores the risks autonomous technology (AT) poses to global society. More specifically, the text’s authors discuss 1) what the terms ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI) and ‘autonomous technology’ (AT) denote, as well as the problems that come with using them; 2) Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) and how they relate to AI and AT; 3) international discussion on these issues that have taken place within the United Nations Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (UN CCW) framework; 4) ways to weaponize AT; 5) peacetime threats created by AT, and more.
