Study planning

The study plan is the list of courses you plan on taking at ETH Zurich where you will be enrolled in one specific department.

The study plan guidelines explain how to find courses in the Course Catalogue and which rules you must follow. Read them carefully. The Course Catalogue includes specific details, e.g. lecturers' names, the language of instruction, deadlines, the course frequency and types of examinations.

Your study plan must be well coordinated with the schedule at your home university.

There are three types of performance assessments. Under "Performance assessment" in the Course Catalogue, you can see the type of assessment for the courses.

• End-of-semester examinations take place during and directly after the end of a semester.
• Session examinations begin a few weeks after a semester ends and continue until the beginning of the following semester.
• Semester performances mostly take the form of integrated performance assessments during the semester or performance assessments which take place outside of the normal semester schedule (e.g. block courses).

Mobility students must respect the official examination dates. So plan your exchange period accordingly to ensure your presence at ETH during the session examination.

It is possible to take courses at the University of Zurich (UZH). If you wish to take additional courses at the University of Zurich, you have to apply online at University of Zurich for Module Mobility (studying at more than one university).

• Adhere to the application deadlines for studying at more than one university as well as the deadlines for enrolling modules at the UZH. Application deadlines vary for each department and module. Students are strongly advised to check the deadline for each module. Application deadlines are usually on the last Friday before the semester start.
• The conditions of the UZH apply to these courses, e.g. students are only allowed to take courses at the Master's level if they have a Bachelor's degree and they register for a Master's programme (ideally in the department offering the module). Students who are registered in a Bachelor's programme cannot take Master's level courses.
• Upload the document "ConfirmationOfAcceptanceIncomings.pdf" sent by ETH to you per email.
• Courses taken at UZH must also be agreed with the your departmental exchange coordinators and listed in Mobility-Online. In Mobility-Online, you enter the courses with the course title specified by UZH and the correct number of credit points.
  
• Enrolled UZH courses will appear automatically on your ETH transcript of records. You, therefore, do not need to enter the course units in myStudies.
  
• For courses run jointly by UZH and ETH, follow the instructions in the Course Catalogue.

Contact the disability advisory service at an early stage for information on support options and procedures. This is particularly important with regard to study conditions, examination arrangements ­and the housing situation in Zurich.
