Experiencing a different academic culture can open up new perspectives on research and on life. This was the experience of three ETH doctoral students who were awarded an ETH Zurich Doc.Mobility Fellowship for a six months stay abroad. ETH doctoral students may apply again by 1 September 2022.

ETH mathematician Georg Anegg spent three weeks at Ashesi University in Ghana, which offers a joint master's program in Mechatronics Engineering with ETH Zurich. In an interview published by the D-MATH News, he talks about what it's like to teach in Ashesi and what motivated him to participate in the project.

The Department of Mathematics is responsible for mathematics tuition in all of the degree programmes that ETH offers. It has used the corona-related emergency operation to switch to remote teaching. Four students and lecturers tell of their experiences.

The winners of the photo competition for ETH members "Favourite places on the Hönggerberg campus" have been selected: Nicolas Ochsner won with a photo of the archive room of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta).  

At the start of August, Alessio Figalli was awarded the Fields Medal. This distinction is often referred to as the Nobel Prize for mathematicians and is a cause for major celebration. ETH Zurich is to mark this special occasion with a honorary lecture on 22 October 2018. The lecture will also be broadcast via live streaming.

What is the nature and meaning of numbers? Mathematician Richard Dedekind asked these questions 159 years ago at ETH Zurich, and became the first person to define real numbers. To mark this occasion, the Israeli science historian Leo Corry will give a public lecture on the unity of Dedekind’s number theoretic concepts.
