Corona measures: What the ETH community is concerned about

In the townhall on September 3, the two members of the Executive Board, Ueli Weidmann and Sarah Springman, answered questions from ETH members about the recently enacted regulations.

On which scientific foundations are the measures based, in particular the obligation to wear a mask? Why do we not have to wear a mask at the workplace? For what reason do the rules regarding events only apply until the end of the year? Are we allowed to use Zoom also in 2021 at ETH?

Rector Sarah Springman and Vice President Ueli Weidmann, who heads the Covid 19 Task Force at ETH, answered these and other questions about the current work, teaching and learning situation in the Townhall on September 3. In addition to general queries, they also answered many detailed questions about the regulations and safety concepts that have recently been put into effect, assisted by department heads and specialists from their domains. They emphasized that the answers referred to the rules and regulations in force today. However, these are not set in stone, but will be adapted if the situation changes.

1300 ETH members attended the zoom event, 70 questions were received, about half of which were answered in the one-hour townhall. For the first time, the event was simultaneously translated into English. This revealed a teething problem with the new functionality in that certain speakers sounded both languages simultaneously.

All questions and answers that are of general interest will be included in the FAQs on the Corona website. Specific questions that could not be answered at the Townhall due to time constraints will be answered individually.
