After the two opinion pieces on the topic of “gender-neutral language” in the last issue of life magazine gave rise to plenty of interesting discussions, we would also like to get ETH members’ perspective on another controversial topic in the next issue.

This time, we’d like to ask: “Should ETH have a first-name culture across the university?” How would this impact our day-to-day work and the way we work together?

As we already have an author “against”, we’re now looking for someone to defend establishing a first-name culture across the board. Do you see more pros than cons? Would you like to share your views with the ETH community? Then send your three strongest arguments to by 8 February. We’ll be happy to help you prepare your piece for publication. The article will appear in the next issue of life magazine, which is scheduled for 12 April.

We look forward hearing your arguments!
