The first lecture of the Swiss Year of Scientometrics: opportunities and challenges
The first lecture of the Swiss Year of Scientometrics (SYoS) will take place on 7 June 2023. Dr Stefanie Haustein will be giving an overview of the landscape of scientometrics and its recent developments.
The first SYoS lecture focuses on the judicious use of scientometric data and the opportunities they offer. We are pleased to have Dr Stefanie Haustein of the University of Ottawa on board as a speaker.
Diversification of data sources: opportunities and challenges
Dr Haustein's lecture will focus on recent developments in the field of research evaluation. She will talk about the recent diversification of databases and APIs (e. g. OpenAlex), which bring challenges as well as opportunities.
There will also be a discussion of the need for increased education in the use of scholarly metrics so as to avoid misinterpretations and distortions.
After the lecture, there will be an opportunity to discuss the questions raised.
The lecture ‘Opportunities and challenges of scientometrics: Diversification of data sources and applications’ will take place on 7 June 2023 from 5.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The venue is ETH Zurich, Campus Zentrum, Leonhardstrasse 21, 8092 Zurich, LEE E 101. The lecture will be held in English.

Three further SYoS lectures have been scheduled already, so save the dates:

Dr Stefanie Haustein is an associate professor at the School of Information Studies, University of Ottawa. She is also the co-director of the Scholarly Communications Lab (ScholCommLab), an interdisciplinary group of researchers who analyze scholarship in the digital era.
Dr Haustein is an expert on scholarly communication and research evaluation. Her research interests include bibliometrics, altmetrics and open science.
