Chemical Waste Water and Water Pollution
The section Operational Environmental and Radiation Protection (BUSS) arranges periodic analysis of the chemical wastewater and, if necessary, initiates general technical measures. BUSS informs on possible law amendments, offers trainings on aspects of operational environmental protection and radiation protection, provides factsheets and information and updates the DownloadETH Waste Disposal Guideline. Disposing of chemicals/hazardous substances that are no longer needed and chemical waste from laboratory and workshop spaces (even in tiny quantities) by pouring them into the public sewage system is prohibited at ETH Zurich. Even if the substance is diluted or mixed beforehand, this prohibition on sewage disposal still stands. Chemical waste must be transferred to one of the hazardous waste disposal points at ETH Zurich so that it can be disposed of in line with the legislation.
