Additional information

Hans Kollhoff has been Full Professor of Architecture and Construction at the ETH Zurich since 1990. From 1987-1989 he lectured at the ETH Zurich as guest professor.

Born on September 18, 1946 in Lobenstein, Germany, Kollhoff studied architecture at the University of Karlsruhe from 1968-1973. In 1974 he was visiting critic at the Technical University of Vienna. After obtaining his degree in 1975, he returned to Karlsruhe. He was awarded a DAAD grant to Cornell University, New York, and worked there as assistant in the graduate design program until 1978. Kollhoff returned to Europe and accepted a position as assistant to the Chair of Building Typology and Design at the Technical University of Berlin. He founded a company in that city in the same year. Between 1981 and 1985 Kollhoff was once more guest professor in the USA, at the Academy of Arts in Berlin and at the University of Dortmund.

In 1984 Kollhoff went into partnership with the architect Helga Timmermann in Berlin. Together with a staff of about 50, he works on a wide spectrum of building commissions, mainly office buildings and residential housing in Berlin, in other parts of Germany and also in other European countries.

Kollhoff's work has been widely published in many international architectural journals. His critique on current issues in the world of architecture and his numerous lecture tours at home and abroad relate his experience in theory and practice.
