Types of examination
The way in which a course is examined is published in the Course Catalogue and in the student application "myStudies".
Forms of performance assessments
by ETH Zurich:
- This type of performance assessment must be carried out as part of the examination sessions which are held twice a year.
- Students must register for these examinations using myStudies.
- These examinations are planned by the Examinations Office and are listed in the personal examination schedule which is shown in eDoz.
- Performance assessments which are only examined in the session immediately after the course are marked in the Course Catalogue with the flag "The performance assessment is only offered in the session after the course unit. Repetition only possible after re-enrolling".
- Legal basis: ETH Zurich Ordinance on Performance Assessments
- This type of performance assessment is carried out during the last two weeks of a semester or during the first two weeks of the semester vacations.
(At the turn of the year, these are weeks 2 and 3 of the calendar year.)
- Students must also register for these performance assessments using myStudies.
- The examination dates must be entered by you in eDoz by the 8th week of the semester at the latest. The examination dates for end-of-semester examinations subsequenly become visible in myStudies for registered students.
- Please note:
If it is possible to repeat a performance assessment without having to re-enrol in a course, a repetition date, generally at the start of the following semester, is offered.
These dates too are either announced by you or by the department offering the course (Study Administration Office).
Students must register for such a repetition date using myStudies; this is only possible once the result of their first try has been officially announced by the Study Administration Office. - Legal basis: Download Directive on the end-of-semester examination phase (PDF, 178 KB)
- Semester performances mostly take the type of integrated performance assessments during the semester or performance assessments which take place outside of the normal semester schedule (e.g. block course).
- Semester performances may be graded or ungraded.
- Students do not have to actively register for this type of performance assessment. However, they must enrol in the respective subject, in order that the results can be entered in eDoz (using "Grades / Results" > Button "Semester Performances").
