Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke

The Chair is responsible for teaching and research in the history and theory of art and architecture c.1400–1900, in close concert with the other members of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture - gta. We understand our task as examining and testing the relevance of this history in the context of a department of architecture. Rather than sustain a narrowly defined, operative view of history, we seek to understand the complexity of architecture, its meanings, agency, and legitimacy by means of an intricate reading of its past.
