This paper looks at how racial ideologies are enacted in relation to class, gender and other ideologies of power, commenting on the example of African dance courses in Stockholm, Sweden. It examines the limited employment options available to African immigrants in Stockholm, looks at their African identity and outlines the development of the African dance market. Subsequently, the paper sheds light on the typical African dance instructor and student and on how African dance is perceived.
