With ‘AI Foundry’, ETH Zurich is launching its first programme for AI spin-offs. It is aimed at founders who are ‘building Frontier Labs’, developing new AI architectures or driving forward IP-intensive AI for science, industry and other sectors.
Andrea Frangi, Professor of Timber Structures at ETH Zurich, has been awarded the 2026 Carola and Carl-Olof Ternryd Award. He is being recognised for his research in timber engineering, which has helped shape international standards and design rules for timber structures.
Critical dependencies on raw materials, technologies and key infrastructure can be used as a means of exerting political pressure. A new report led by KOF Co-Director Hans Gersbach recommends that the EU reduce such vulnerabilities wherever sensible and feasible, strengthen its capacity to respond to geo-economic pressure, and expand international partnerships.
