Advanced cities need to modernize their aging infrastructure, reducing the risk of damage against natural hazards, with a particular focus on earthquakes. We have developed a mechanical device that attenuates vibrations and can be conveniently mounted to a designated position of an existing building. Our prototype, the NegSV, demonstrates that this technology can outperform existing solutions, while being integrated to the original architecture of the structure. Our goal is to revive traditional buildings so that they conform with modern regulations and demands.
