“Whenever I visit ETH, I can feel the spirit of research, innovation and future-mindedness. I’m proud that I studied at this university and will soon be working here,” says the 49-year-old, who grew up in Hitzkirch in the canton of Lucerne. Since 2013, Daniel has managed Credit Suisse's portfolio of operational real estate in Switzerland, where he is responsible for the optimal provision of workspaces.

Leading complex projects

In 2000, Daniel joined Credit Suisse as a client side project manager for office buildings, and soon went on to lead the Zurich Construction Management department for several years. He also headed up the Zurich Corporate Real Estate & Services department, which covers construction management, operation and maintenance and workplace logistics, for seven years. In this role, he was responsible for ‘Uetlihof 2’, an extension of the Uetlihof office building at Albisgüetli that created 2,500 new workspaces.

Before joining Credit Suisse, Daniel started out as an architect in an engineering firm, working on various industrial and commercial buildings as well as residential properties. “After 16 years in the financial sector, I’m excited to join the world of university real estate, where I can focus more closely on property and construction management,” he says. “I’m particularly looking forward to working for ETH and collaborating with the excellent team in Zurich.”

Real estate: continued dynamic development

Daniel Bucheli completed a degree in architecture at ETH in 1995, followed by a Master of Advanced Studies in Management, Technology and Economics in 1999. “ETH will continue to develop dynamically. A decisive factor in this development is a real estate portfolio that offers solutions to meet the demanding requirements of research, teaching and management,” says Ulrich Weidmann, ETH Vice President Human Resources and Infrastructure. “The appointment of Daniel Bucheli as Director of the ETH Public Real Estate Management Division means that we are well placed to carry the university’s architectural fundament on into a successful future.”
