Accommodation

You are responsible for finding suitable accommodation.

There is a small room contingent for international Master's degree students with an Excellence Scholarship as well as for international students in Direct Doctorate/Joint Master's programmes who meet certain conditions - see below for details.

!Beware of frauds

Unfortunately some fraud advertisements always find their way onto the internet.

The scammers attract interest with very cheap offers in great locations. Typically the landlord will be out of the country and can't show the flat personally. In most cases you'll be asked to pay a deposit and possibly rent(s) in advance to secure the rental contract or to receive the key.

Never transfer any money before you haven't seen the flat or room, if you don't trust the potential landlord hundred percent!
Try to find out more about the potential landlord!

Accommodation is your own responsibility

Due to the extremely tight housing market in Zurich, it is advisable to search early and in different ways. It is nearly impossible to find accommodation from home before arriving in Zurich (beware of fraud advertisements, see above!). If possible, you should come to Zurich in advance for a few days to search on the spot.

The Housing Office of the University / ETH Zurich runs its own search platform and publishes an extensive list of further search options.

Please note that the search for accommodation can take up to several weeks from the time of arrival in Zurich and you are responsible for booking temporary accommodation in a hotel/hostel or AirBnB for the first period.
