Ending your stay

Before leaving ETH Zurich, project mobility students must take care of several things.

Submit your thesis or project by the end date of your stay. Discuss with your supervisor what you need to submit and how.

The Student Exchange Office cannot advise on this.

Change your correspondence address in myStudies to your home address. Access to myStudies and your ETH mail account will remain active for several months (Downloadsee details here (PDF, 176 KB)).

Deregister with the authorities, advised to do 30 days before departure:

  • in the city of Zurich: residents’ registration office ("Personalmeldeamt")
  • other municipalities: local administration ("Gemeindeverwaltung") where you registered

Note

  • Received a letter? About 30 days before your residence permit expires, the migration authorities normally send a letter with the so-called "Verfallsanzeige" (notice of expiry). You should react immediately. Otherwise, the authorities may fine you. Inform the authorities about your imminent departure.
  • Need a deregistration confirmation? It is needed to cancel your Swiss health insurance contract. Request it against a fee at the respective office. external pageResidents of the city of Zurich can order the deregistration confirmation online.

If you need one and have registered the project in myStudies: Request your transcript of records from the Study Administration Office of your department (Downloadsee information leaflet for contact details (PDF, 91 KB)). Note our FAQ on having your project / thesis on your transcript and on grading.

If you have a Swiss health insurance: Cancel your health insurance contract.

Your stay with us has ended and you will be dematriculated.

We hope you have benefitted from your stay both personally and academically and we wish you all the best for the future.
