Qualification Profile (QP) is a crucial (legal) document that aligns ETH’s goals with the structure of degree programmes and their course designs. It defines the subject-specific, methodological, social and personal competences that graduates of a degree programme will have acquired by the end of their studies.

The Qualification Profile may be a one-page document, but it informs the structure of the whole degree programme. Writing it can take time and conversations that are attentive to detail, structured, and thoughtful.

This guide Download How to? …write a Qualification Profile (PDF, 561 KB) helps with this process in three ways:

  • It briefly explains the role of and the requirements for Qualification Profiles at ETH (page 1).
  • It emphasizes the practical aspects of QP structure and provides examples for formulation (page 2).
  • It offers a checklist and rubric to facilitate comprehensive discussions on the QP and its role in your degree programme (pages 3-5).

This guide is grounded in ETH-wide documentation that offers a comprehensive framework for curriculum development processes and detailed insights into Qualification Profiles:
