Carlo Sferrazza
TEDx talk: Robots that feel by seeing

In 2011, Carlo received his Bachelor's Degree with honours in Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. He successfully completed an exchange programme at Tongji University in Shanghai, for which he was awarded the Double Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology Engineering (2016). He pursued at ETH the Master of Science in Robotics, Systems and Control, which he completed with distinction in 2016. For his Master's Thesis, entitled "Parametrized Model Predictive Control on the Flying Platform: Trajectory Tracking and Full Constraint Satisfaction", he received the ETEL Award 2017 for the best Master's Thesis in Mechatronics. He is a recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics (RoboSoft). His research interests include different fields of robotics and control theory, spanning from machine learning and computer vision to trajectory optimization and model predictive control, with applications to tactile sensing and flying vehicles.

The turmoil that this year has brought has meant that TEDxZurich's main event which would have normally taken place with a live audience, had to be completely rethought. So TEDxZurich, of which ETH Zurich is an Academic Partner, came up with a completely new, digital format.

In order to avoid long sessions and “Zoom fatigue” they decided to instead release new unaired TEDxZurich 2020 Talks in four weekly livestreams counting down to the new year as they “Break Out” of 2020 to welcome 2021.

Each evening’s program will include 2-3 talks, lasting approximately an hour to an hour and a half. These talks are pre-recorded, and aired live for the first time exclusively to the audiences that join the livestream – for free!
