Prof. em. Dr. Hans-Dieter Daniel

Hans-Dieter Daniel was appointed Professor of Social Psychology and Research on Higher Education in the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences in 2001. He holds a dual professorship at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.

He was born in Bad Saeckingen, Germany in 1955.

Hans-Dieter Daniel graduated in psychology (Diploma) 1979 at the University of Constance, Germany.

1979-1985 he worked as a scientific employee at the Chair of Social Psychology of the University of Constance. In 1983 he completed his PhD at the University of Constance and worked 1985-1991 as an assistant lecturer at the same university. He was awarded the Venia legendi in psychology by the University of Constance in 1992. At the same year he was awarded a research fellowship by the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany.

1992-1995 Hans-Dieter Daniel directed Baden-Wuerttemberg’s pilot project „Evaluation der Lehre“ (Evaluation of teaching) at the University of Mannheim, Germany. 1995-2001 he held the position of Professor for Social Science Research Methods at the University of Kassel, Germany, and was member of the board of directors of the International Centre for Higher Education Research Kassel (formerly: Centre of Research on Higher Education and Work). 1996-1999 and in 2001 he was acting director of the International Centre for Higher Education Research at University of Kassel. From 2001 until 07.31.2018 he was director of the Evaluation Office of the University of Zurich.
