Bruno Keller was Full Professor of Building Physics at the Institute of Building Technology at ETH Zurich, starting in October 1991. From 1997 to 2001 he was head of the Institute of Building Technologies (HBT) and from 2001 to 2006 head of the PhD-Committee of the Department of Architecture. He retired at the end of March 2007.
Born on January 4, 1942, citizen of Walzenhausen, AR, Bruno Keller studied in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at ETH Zurich. He received his degree in 1967 in experimental physics. He earned his PhD with a dissertation on “Molecular Dynamics with Orientational Correlation functions” under the supervision of Professor F. K. Kneubühl. Bruno Keller then went on to obtain the postgraduate Certificate in Education and taught physics at the Gymnasium (academic upper secondary school) in Muttenz from 1972 to 1979. In 1980 he joined the company of Geilinger Ltd. in Winterthur as senior scientist and worked in industrial research and development in the fields of problems in building physics, product development and fire simulation. In 1985 he took over management responsibilities as vice-president of the new branch of “High Insolation Technology” with sales, production and international licensing businesses. From 1990 to 1991 he was head of the Department of Industrial Consulting at FIDES Ltd. (CSFB Group).
Bruno Keller was External Examiner of post-graduate studies in facade engineering at the University of Bath, UK, from 1994 to 1998 and was Non-UK Advisor in the Research Accessment Exercise of the UK between 2000 and 2002. In 2001 he founded the company “Keller Technologies Ltd.” for sustainable construction in China, where he still is co-owner and head of the board of administration. During the winter semester 2001/2002 he was holder of a Guest Chair at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Vienna and in 2001 he was appointed as an honorary Visiting Professor of the South East University of China (SEU) at Nanjing, “for his contributions to sustainable construction in China”.
From 2010 to 2012 he was an expert at the Qatar National Research Foundation, in 2010 he was an expert in the Evaluation Committee of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Innsbruck and in the same year in the Evaluation Committee of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Weimar.
