The McNeill research group studies environmentally relevant chemical reactions, with a focus on the catalytic and photocatalytic transformations in aquatic systems. Specific focus areas include the environmental fate of emerging contaminants, photochemistry in surface waters, and metal-mediated dehalogenation reactions. The emphasis of the group’s research is determining chemical mechanisms, in order to understand the factors that control the degradation rates of contaminants and natural compounds. A cornerstone of the group’s approach is the use of modern spectroscopic methods, including multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and time-resolved laser spectroscopy.
Kristopher McNeill is Professor of Environmental Chemistry at the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics, Department of Environmental Sciences, since 2009.
He was born 1970 in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
Kristopher McNeill received his BA in Chemistry, from Reed College, Portland, OR, USA, in 1992 and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA in 1997. 1997-1999 he was a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. 2000-06 he held the position of Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA. In 2007 he was Visiting Professor at the Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, and from 2006 to 2009 Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
