The lecture series “The Sustainable Development Goals in Context” blends cutting-edge research with real-world insights to explore the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

Information for our students and guests

The Public Lecture "The Sustainable Development Goals in Context" does not take place in the autumn semester 2026.

We pause and will be back with a new edition in the autumn semester 2027.

What are the major challenges and chances related to sustainable development? How does research at ETH Zurich and practice contribute to it?

The lecture series uses a dynamic and engaging format to explore innovative ideas for driving social change and technological advancement. It encourages reflection on challenges encountered in addressing the SDGs.

Co-organised by ETH Sustainability, ETH for Development and NADEL, students from all disciplines as well as external guests get the opportunity to gather and explore pressing global issues through an interdisciplinary lens.

Previous editions

Six editions of the Public Lecture Series "The Sustainable Development Goals in Context" were organised in the spring semesters 2020, 2021, 2022, and autumn semesters 2023, 2024, and 2025.

The editions 2020-2022 were organised by D-USYS in cooperation with ETH Sustainability.

The editions 2023-2025 were organised by ETH4D and NADEL (D-GESS) in cooperation with ETH Sustainability.
