Reporting Office

If you are affected by inappropriate behaviour or conflict, and the situation cannot be resolved with the help of a contact/advice service, you can submit a written report. ETH Zurich will then initiate a formal clarification procedure.

ETH Zurich’s Reporting Office is an outsourced service in which external specialists independent of the university deal with formal notifications, approach all the relevant parties and coordinate meetings to clarify the situation.

Submitting a formal report

To submit a formal report about inappropriate behaviour, such as sexual harassment, discrimination or bullying, just fill in the form below. Please note the applicable conditions listed in what follows.

Conditions

You, the affected person are either employed by the university, enrolled as a student, or visiting as a guest of ETH Zurich.
The person who presumably caused the inappropriate behaviour is an employee of ETH Zurich.
Please note: If you are affected by inappropriate behaviour by a student at ETH, contact the Advice and Conciliation Service Respect.
The conflict has not been resolved even after informal measures such as discussing the situation with your supervisor and/or your competent HR Partner in HR Consulting, and/or confidential advice from an ETH contact and advisory service has not brought a solution (see: Help for dealing with inappropriate behaviour or conflicts).

Deadlines

The report must be made in good time, usually within three months after the inappropriate behaviour.

What happens after I submit a formal report?

The Reporting Office verifies the completeness of your report and ensures compliance with all deadlines. Depending on which parties are involved, it forwards the report to the competent internal office.

The Reporting Office, or the competent office, then holds initial discussions with you, as the person affected. If you wish to pursue a formal report, your identity will be revealed to the person allegedly causing the inappropriate behaviour, who will subsequently be given a hearing as well.

The Reporting Office then initiates and coordinates the appropriate procedure to clarify the situation. The applicable law and specific procedure depend in particular on the person against who the allegations of inappropriate behaviour are directed.

The Reporting Office operates according to the principles of impartiality, the rule of law and fairness. Throughout the clarification procedure, the Reporting Office requests from all parties involved the commitment to mutually respectful behaviour and fair play in communication. Confidentiality will be maintained vis-à-vis third parties not involved.

If the clarification procedure determines there has been a demonstrable violation of the ETH Code of Conduct, the line management or the competent office may instigate measures under employment law or other appropriate measures.
