Internal Application Pool for Administrative Assistant Positions

01 March 2023

As already informed in the last HR Aktuell, you will have the opportunity to register on the "external pageInternal Application Pool for Administrative Assistant Positions" from 01.03.2023, as long as you are already employed at ETH Zurich as an Administrative Assistant or if you match the profile in this regard.
The application pool supports internal mobility and encourages individual initiative. Nevertheless, this service does not replace the individual responsibility for actively looking for a job and keeping your personal documents (CV, diplomas, etc.) up to date.
Further information can be found on our website.

Re-design of job advertisements and job portal

13 April 2022

Since the end of March we have a new design for our job advertisements and our job portal. The changes have been adapted to the new Cooperate Design of ETH Zurich.

What is new?

  • The "Your work location" section has been reduced in size and moved to the top to make it more visible to applicants.
  • The diversity statement has been given its own place.
  • The "Interested?" section is now called "Curious? So are we." and has been highlighted in color.
  • The ETH video has been placed at the end.

New section "We offer" in job advertisements

19 November 2021

As of today, an additional optional field entitled "We offer" is available in the recruitment tool. This is to give you the opportunity to emphasise more strongly in the job advertisement what you think makes the position attractive to applicants.

What is distinctive about the work in your department/group? For example, describe training opportunities, career development prospects, your team culture, working and employment conditions or your commitment to diversity.

If the field is left blank, the section will not appear in the job advertisement.

Piloting text analysis tools for inclusive job advertisements

8 November 2021

The language used in job advertisements determines who applies. Some phrases lead to certain groups of people (e.g. in terms of age, gender or disabilities) feeling that they are not being addressed. As a result, suitable candidates may not apply in the first place.

To promote diversity and inclusion and to attract diverse talent, ETH Zurich is piloting two text analysis tools for one year to support recruiters in creating inclusive job advertisements.

Compelling job advertisements for academic roles

19 July 2021

The newly developed guide Download"Compelling job advertisements for academic roles" (PDF, 1.9 MB) helps recruiters for academic roles to formulate a complete and attractive job advertisement that appeals to qualified candidates. It contains:

  • Recommendations concerning structure and content in line with our corporate design
  • Examples used in practice for academic roles
  • Tips for promoting diversity
  • Ideas on how best to address the target group

We hope that this will be of particular help to recruiters who recruit primarily without the support of HR. A guide for technical/administrative roles will be implemented at a later date.

Equal Opportunity Employer Statement

12 July 2021

In order to express ETH Zurich's commitment to equal opportunities and diversity, the following Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) Statement will be included in all job advertisements with immediate effect.

“In line with our values, ETH Zurich encourages an inclusive culture. We promote equality of opportunity, value diversity and nurture a working and learning environment in which the rights and dignity of all our staff and students are respected. Visit our Equal Opportunities and Diversity website to find out how we ensure a fair and open environment that allows everyone to grow and flourish.”

The aim is to attract more people with different backgrounds and talents and to encourage them to apply at ETH Zurich.

The EOE is another step towards a more diverse ETH community.

(m/w/d) in job titles of all German job advertisements

20 April 2021

To take a stand for diversity, (m/w/d) will be added to the titles of all German job advertisements from now on. Our intention with this is to speak to everyone.

The abbreviation “d” stands for “diverse” and is a recognised and widely used designation in the German-speaking area for people, who do not feel represented by a binary gender identity, i.e. cannot or do not want to assign themselves to “male” or “female”.

As English job titles are generally gender-neutral and these additions are uncommon, this extension will not be added to English advertisements.
