Personnel development

As employees, we support you in your professional and personal development by outlining the most important steps, providing you with relevant information and support materials in a bundled form, and drawing your attention to further services.

Take an active role in planning your own professional development. Set time aside for an assessment of your current professional situation in order to determine where you are now, analyse your personal strengths and areas for development and plan development measures with a clear eye on your objectives.

With their work and commitment, scientific staff make a major contribution to scientific research at ETH Zurich and to its reputation. In return, ETH Zurich has a strong interest in ensuring that its scientific staff can continue to use and apply the skills and competencies they have acquired in the future and that their professional development progresses accordingly.

While the principle of rotating appointments in the science sector is important, ETH Zurich also offers permanent positions for highly qualified and experienced scientists with an international reputation. In order to increase the quality of research and teaching, ETH Zurich is strengthening the employment of permanent scientific staff, with clear framework conditions.

All information on profiles and requirements for permanent scientific staff (Senior Scientist) can be found in the brochure "DownloadScientific Functions at ETH Zurich (PDF, 1.8 MB)" starting on page 9.

Further information on permanent appointments of scientific staff can be found here.

As technical administrative employee, you accept a high level of individual responsibility for your professional development. Your supervisors support you in your current role or help you to develop through new tasks. Your supervisor’s responsibilities and your desires for development are discussed in the annual appraisal interviews. HR provides support to supervisors and employees in the form of appropriate services, and is on hand to answer questions. With the tools provided to you by the appraisal interview and the individual development plan (IDP), you can define the measures needed for your development.

Excellently trained and motivated employees are the basis for excellence in research and teaching. Personnel development at ETH Zurich is therefore of central importance to all employees. We are happy to support you in your development with various services.
