Lifelong Learning Hub
The Lifelong Learning Hub, or L3H for short, supports ETH employees in integrating continual learning in their daily work, strengthening their social and leaderships competencies and maximising their potential.
A learning culture fit for the future
In a rapidly changing world that constantly presents new challenges, continuous acquisition of knowledge and ongoing personal development are needed to ensure we are ready to meet future demands. The new L3H creates a space in which all ETH employees have flexible access to a broad range of learning content tailored to their individual needs, at a time and place that suits them. The learning platform L3H brings together content, people and technology, placing the focus squarely on a collaborative learning experience. In particular, the learning contents aim to firmly embed ETH Zurich's social and leadership competencies and develop them as skilfully as possible in tune with your own situation and requirements. In this way, lifelong learning makes a valuable contribution towards the achievement of ETH’s overriding goals.
#StayCurious!
The lifelong learning event for all ETH employees took place from November 19th to 21st, 2024.
Experts such as Tanja Stadler, Hartmut Rosa, Emily Cross, Hans Rusinek and many others sparked the curiosity of the participants with inputs on accelerating our society, learning in interaction with others, leadership, artificial intelligence, career development and more. During three days and nine sessions, there was lively discussion and reflection on how personal development can be achieved thanks to the openness to learning new things.
Thank you to everyone who joined for their active participation and the positive response.

Personalised learning content
The core of L3H comprises “learning nuggets”: easily accessible learning units in a variety of formats ranging from workshops or courses to e-learning modules, podcasts, information leaflets and peer learning offers.
All employees can pursue their personal “learning journey”, with a combination of predefined and self-selected learning paths.
During the transition phase of the L3H, the courses offered by Development and Leadership, can also be found on the course overview page. From there, you can register directly for our courses.
The predefined learning paths contain suggestions for learning nuggets, geared to the user’s current career stage and work role. New employees in the “Onboarding and getting on track” phase, for example, receive different learning recommendations to longer-serving ETH members.
Within these learning paths there is ample room for independent and individual learning, and to follow specific thematic areas, ranging from project management to emotional intelligence. Employees decide themselves what content they want to use, and when, thereby ensuring the smoothest possible integration into their daily work.
Suggestions and feedback from users mean the platform continues to develop further.
Learning together
Learning is easier done with peers, and learning content is embedded more effectively. With the L3H learning platform, ETH Zurich wants to establish a culture of collective learning that actively encourages collaboration between all staff across all levels and areas of the organisation.
The Development & Leadership Team is looking forward to a communal learning journey and is available for any questions or feedback.

"L3H is very intuitive to use. The functionalities, such as content sharing, work in a similar way to well-known social media platforms. Thanks to suggestions for course content, I can find suitable learning material more quickly than using Google or LinkedIn. That saves time and gives me the certainty that the contents have been screened by ETH Zurich and so are reliable study resources. L3H certainly offers me and my team added value in our everyday work – and makes learning even more enjoyable!"
Sabrina Humbel, Head of Administration at KOF Swiss Economic Institute
- Test user in the pilot phase
“The Lifelong Learning Hub gives me a central platform where collective learning is encouraged and highly accessible. I particularly like the fact that L3H provides a clear overview of available learning content and at the same time suggests a learning path suited to my work role. On top of that, I think the ‘Receive or give suggestions for learning content’ function is brilliant – it makes it much easier for me to share knowledge with my team members or other colleagues.”
