Age and Generations

ETH Zurich employs staff and welcomes students from various age groups. It is our goal to support all the diverse generations in their activities.

Multi-Generational Teams

Age is a physiological marker, but it also comes with many sociocultural assumptions and expectations. For example, young people tend to be seen as fast, tech-savvy and willing to learn, but also often as inexperienced and therefore less competent. Conversely, older people are seen as slow to learn and change, but they tend to be seen as having more experience and authority than younger people. ETH Zurich strives to see beyond these first assumptions and celebrates the various perspectives that people of different generations bring. A mix of different ages among members of a team increases the potential for its creativity and innovation and supports the sustainability of its work. ETH Zurich supports a mix of people from different age groups and values the input from all age cohorts and the transfer of knowledge between generations.

For Children and School Kids

Encouraging children, and girls especially, to persue an interest in STEM subjects begins at a young age. ETH Zurich offers a number of opportunities and programs for children. These includes holiday activities for children, as well as classroom-oriented projects.
