Breastfeeding at work

Entitlement

If you continue to breastfeed after returning to work, you are entitled to the following paid breastfeeding time during your child’s first year:

  • daily working time of up to 4 hours: 30 minutes
  • daily working time of more than 4 hours: 60 minutes
  • daily working time of more than 7 hours: 90 minutes

Time spent breastfeeding may not be deducted from outstanding overtime or remaining holidays.

Medical rooms with beds are available for breastfeeding mothers. Contact the staff from the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department via e-mail . They will be happy to show you the medical room (respectively resting room or nursing room) closest to your working place and will provide you with a key for the suitable room upon request.

Overtime during the breastfeeding period

As a breastfeeding mother, you must not be obliged to work overtime. Daily working time must not exceed nine hours under any circumstances (Art. 60 paragraph 1 of Ordinance 1 to the Employment Act [EmpO 1]).
