New solutions for printing operations of Campus Services

Advances in digital technology and the impact of regulatory changes have led to a shift in customer preferences and needs – resulting in a decline in demand for printed media at ETH Zurich.

Unfortunately, despite the price adjustments, we are unable to ensure the profitability of our printing operation in the medium term. Pending investments for the renovation of the print web shop and production machinery are exacerbating this difficult situation.

Essential decision

In view of this, Campus Services management and the Vice President for Infrastructure have decided, after careful consideration, to close down the ETH Zurich printing centre on the Hönggerberg campus at the end of 2024. In order to continue offering print services to ETH members, a number of follow-up solutions will be found and put in place by the start of 2025. The aim here is to retain both infrastructure and staff.

In short

  • Services offered by the Print group (Print web shop / Plot on demand) will be available, in full, until replaced or taken over.
  • Services offered by the Publish group (Media design / Campus Channels) are not affected by the decision and will continue to be available as usual.

Project task force

Formed in October 2023, the FuturePrint@ETH project group was assigned by Campus Services management to coordinate the transition from regular operations to the start of new operations in 2025. On the FuturePrint@ETH project web page, you can find answers to key questions about the decision and the latest news on the group’s activities.
