With PAKETH, the programme regulations will be structurally harmonised and streamlined. All Bachelor's and Master's degree regulations will be updated for introduction in the Autumn Semester 2027.

Develop qualification profiles:
You can find advice and support for degree programs regarding the development or revision of qualification profiles on the Advisory Services page, as well as by contacting the UTL contact persons for curriculum development for programme responsibles.
Programme regulations:
The Educational Legislation team (AkD) provides counselling on the programme regulations and supplies templates for the new programme regulations - including instructions for use and general factsheets on frequently asked questions relating to the organisation of the degree programmes. Programme responsibles can find these documents in an external page external folder with restricted access.
The departments are very welcome to directly by email to arrange meetings to discuss questions relating to the structure of degree programmes and other aspects of the programme regulations.
Implement teaching optimisation:
There is a lot of potential to revise your own degree programme in line with PAKETH in the coordination between the individual courses within one’s degree programme.
The two new factsheets "external page Competence orientation"* and "external page From content to competence"* show procedures for this and also serve as a basis for consultations by UTL.
Workload planning and monitoring:
How can degree programmes ensure that workload peaks are avoided during the semester?
UTL offers counselling, analyses and support in the coordination between degree programmes and lecturers. You can find more information in the teaching sub-project.

Current status of the project

Change to the Procedure for the Core Process “Quality Assurance in Grading”
The procedure is being adjusted in connection with the implementation of the PAKETH measure “Quality Assurance in the Assessment of Performance Assessments and Grading” (see PAKETH Manual, Chapter 3.3.9 “Replacement Grading Conference”). Originally, the plan was to develop the quality assurance process collaboratively in a working group over the course of the spring and summer of 2026. Based on recent discussions, the intention is now to include this topic as a separate workshop during the PAKETH Day on January 19, 2027.
Examination session on the usual dates
As part of the rollout of PAKETH and Digital Campus academic support processes for the Fall 2028 semester, Academic Services assessed whether the 2028 summer examination session would need to be moved up by one to two weeks to ensure a smooth transition. Fortunately, the assessment concluded that moving up the examination session is not necessary. It will take place in the summer of 2028 on the usual dates.
New “Advanced Modules” Category
In June 2026, the study programme coordinators proposed introducing an additional module category, “Advanced Modules,” for the undergraduate degree programmes. The PAKETH steering group approved this proposal at its meeting on August 31, 2026. The PAKETH manual has been updated. Departments and the Academic Regulations Committee will implement this change in the programme regulations accordingly.

Procedure and timelines
For degree programmes, the focus is currently on classifying the learning content of the degree programme into categories. The AkD offers support on the legal basis, programme structure and (teaching) application, while UTL provides support on content and didactics.
The qualification profile serves as a framework for the content of this process. If content adjustments are planned for the assigning to the categories, the qualification profile should be revised in advance.
The programme regulations and all annexes (including the qualification profile) must be finally approved by the Department Conferences (DK) by the end of Spring Semester 2026 at the latest.
Best practice: The mapping of the qualification profile in modules starts with its revision. The critical factor is the interplay between content delivery and workload for everyone.

Further Development of the Project Organization
- The subprojects Legislation and Teaching and Administration & Operations, which have been managed separately until now, will be merged into a single subproject titled Academic Support Processes. This step will further consolidate the closely coordinated work in the areas of programme regulations, processes, and operational implementation. Franziska Moll and Patricia Moser will serve as co-leaders of the “Academic Support Processes” subproject.

- The next event for technical and administrative staff is currently scheduled for November 26, 2026. Further information on the program and registration will follow at a later date.
Team & Availability
- The PAKETH Sub-Projects Administration & Operations (Patricia Moser), Education Legislation (Franziska Moll), and the Planning and Academic Support Processes unit within Academic Services (AkD) (Kornel Le Grand) work closely together as the AkD PAKETH Team to coordinate their activities in the implementation of PAKETH.
- Since May 2026, Vaida Menezes has been supporting the team in project coordination and administration. In her cross-functional role, she facilitates collaboration across different areas, coordinates joint activities, advances the development of project documentation, and helps establish a central knowledge base.
- A central email address has been set up for the AkD PAKETH Team. Going forward, it will serve as the shared point of contact for questions and enquiries. Questions related to PAKETH that concern the AkD PAKETH Team can now be sent to . The previous email address, , has therefore been discontinued.
- Draft versions of programme regulations and their admission appendices should continue to be sent to . Please note that, depending on the nature of your enquiry, additional questions may be forwarded to , where they will be handled.
Current Focus Areas
- Alongside organisational work, the substantive preparations for the implementation of PAKETH are continuing. The team's current priorities include the transition of students to the new regulations, the future representation of study pathways, and the alignment of requirements with various internal stakeholders, in particular with the Digital Campus Academic Support Processes team.
Please submit study regulations and appendices for admission well in advance
The Education Legislation Office kindly reminds all departments to continue submitting programme regulations (including Master's programme regulations) and admission appendices. The review process by the Education Legislation team takes some time. Due to the current high volume of incoming requests, processing is taking slightly longer than usual. Thank you for your cooperation.

Keeping track of coordination – with the Curriculum Information Tool (CIT)
Where multiple degree programmes intersect, coordination becomes crucial. The CIT makes these interfaces visible: you can now highlight course units attended by students from several degree programmes – or, if preferred, only compulsory courses. This allows you to identify early on where changes require particular coordination.
New feature in the current version
- Previously, it was already possible to see which learning units within a curriculum are offered by other departments and which of our own learning units are part of the curricula of other degree programs.
- With this update, you can now also highlight all learning units attended by students from more than two different degree programs with a single click. Optionally, this selection can be limited to required courses.
- These learning units often require increased coordination if their content or the semester in which they are offered changes.
Data informed curriculum support
- The Curriculum Information Tool (CIT) supports you in developing evidence-based curricula: service courses, interdependencies and highly popular course units become transparent.
- This new feature specifically enhances this view where coordination is crucial – for well-founded decisions and robust degree programmes.

Valuable diversity at ETH in the PAKETH process: At the Study Conference (Stuko), the Directors of Studies from D-MAVT and D-ITET shared their experiences of curriculum development and workload planning for PAKETH.
The exchange clearly demonstrated how both departments are using the structural reform to further develop existing curricula in a targeted manner.
ITET is focusing on the new semester symmetry to improve workload planning and the integration of essential fundamentals of electrical engineering, whilst MAVT is systematically addressing ‘pain points’ from the 2022 reform and collecting workload data as part of an Innovedum project.
The panel discussion highlighted just how differently the degree programmes are shaping their reform processes – and how valuable this diversity is for ETH.

In the article of Internal News, Rector Prof. Günther Dissertori explains the reasons for postponing the introduction. He also discusses the reasons behind the decision to give PAKETH, Digital Campus and all those involved more time to ensure quality and security during implementation.
The timetables for Digital Campus and the PAKETH sub-projects are currently undergoing a thorough review. The programme regulations already provide clarity regarding the new timings:
- The programme regulations, including all appendices, will be adopted at the latest at the first department conference (DK) of the 2026 autumn semester (see illustration above).
- This also includes the appendix equivalence table, which provides a summary of the transition.
- A detailed version of the equivalence table only needs to be available in December 2026 – this is used for the automated transfer from the old to the new system.
Communication to students: The communication concept, including schedules, is currently being revised. The website for students has been updated.
- Newsletter sent to students: Thursday, 22 January 2026, in the afternoon.

Submit Innovedum PAKETH project proposals by 2 March: The timing for funding contributions for innovative pilot projects in teaching remains unchanged. With an Innovedum teaching project PAKETH Edition, you can pilot innovative solutions within degree programmes that are adapted in the context of PAKETH.
