Withdrawal

General information

  • For session examinations:
From the third week of the semester until Sunday at midnight (24:00 hours) one week before the start of the examination session.
(Attention: Not until one week before your first examination!)
  • For end-of-semester examinations:
From the third week of the semester to the end of the third-last week of the lecture period (Sunday at midnight, 24:00 hours.).
  • Via myStudies
  • All session and end-of-semester examinations for which you are registered
  • Note: Where examinations are part of an examination block, students may only withdraw from the whole block as opposed to individual examinations.
  • If a deadline is exceeded as a result of a withdrawal, it is not possible to withdraw online (e.g. exceeding the deadline for taking the first year examinations for the first time).
→ Requests to extend a deadline to complete studies must be submitted on time to the Vice Rector for Study Programmes using the form protected page Request for extension of an academic deadline.
  • If the withdrawal deadline is exceeded before the deadline extension has been granted, you can withdraw in person at the Examinations Office. (Please note the opening hours!)
  • You cannot withdraw from an examination block which has been interrupted in the previous session due to illness.
  • In case you submitted a request to prepone exams resp. to take them as distance examinations, a withdrawal is not possible online through myStudies anymore. This also applies for all examinations you intended to take regularly during the examination session resp. during the examination phase at the end of the semester.

In each of these cases - and further cases that have not been listed above - please proceed as follows:
Come to the Examinations Office in person if you encounter problems while trying to withdraw exams in myStudies.

Special cases

  • During the scheduling of oral examinations, the withdrawal window has to be closed for a period of approximately three weeks due to technical reasons.
  • You can either wait until the withdrawal window reopens or you can withdraw in writing during this period. To do so, print out the withdrawal form in myStudies and come in person to the reception desk at the Examinations Office, taking the form with you. (Please note the opening hours!)
However, following the temporary blocking of the withdrawal window, you can once again withdraw from examinations online.
