When it comes to implementing equal opportunities in education, special arrangements is an important instrument. It ensures that studying and examination conditions can be adapted without any changes being made to learning or examination contents.

The following answers to frequently asked questions about special arrangements will provide you with an insight into the process and into how the instrument of special arrangements is applied at ETH.

Special arrangements are a set of specific measures which aim to compensate for impediments that are relevant to studying and examinations. The specific degree programme requirements with regard to studying and examinations are not changed. The measures must be proportionate, and they are specified in writing and defined in terms of time. Special arrangements must not lead to any qualitative reduction in the educational targets of a degree programme.

Special arrangements are not an adaptation of the learning objective. Special arrangements must not lead to students being given preferential treatment in comparison with students without disabilities.

From the Disability Advisory Service.

There must be a functional disorder that has been diagnosed by a medical specialist (according to the ICD-10 criteria). The disability must be permanent. People with temporary impairments are not entitled to special arrangements.

Yes, there are. The complete application (form and medical certificate) must have been submitted to the Disability Advisory Service by no later than the deadline for registering for an examination, i.e. by the end of the fourth week of the term. Applications that are not submitted in good time will not be processed.

For session examinations and end-of-semester examinations and for continuous performance assessments.

The application has to be submitted to the address of the Disability Advisory Service for the attention of the Vice Rector for Study Programmes. The applications may also be submitted by e-mail. Please make sure that the application is complete and only involves one consignment.

You will be notified in writing and receive a corresponding order with a covering letter to faculty members.
