The ETH Industry Day on 21 November 2024 is a unique opportunity to gain insight into ETH research and its application in the industry. This year, it will take on a new dimension as part of Open-i at the Zurich Convention Center. The first highlights are confirmed, and registration for the event is now open.

What is a digital twin, what can it do, and what requirements does it have to meet to be of practical use in the machine industry? ETH researchers and three companies investigated these questions and came up with some surprising results. 

Computer tomography (CT) is indispensable in modern medicine, but CT scanners could achieve so much more with better imaging and less X-ray exposure. In a project with industrial partner ams International AG, ETH researchers are testing new materials for the promising photon counting method.

ETH spin-off Engimmune Therapeutics has developed technologies to engineer T-cell receptors (TCRs) which are part of immune cells. Guided by machine learning, the technologies enable the development of TCR drugs that specifically target solid tumours. This emerging therapeutic approach is scalable and less costly than other modalities such as cell therapies.

Lithium-ion solid-state batteries are the batteries of the future. However, their mass production is still too expensive. ETH spin-off Eightinks is developing a manufacturing technology for the mass production of new battery materials and designs. In addition to the scalability of the technology, the goal is also a complete circular economy for batteries.

Companies process dozens of customer orders, order confirmations, delivery notes, and invoices every day. ETH spin-off BLP Digital is revolutionising resource planning with an application that saves costs and reduces the potential for errors. Their collaboration with ETH brought the young company a significant step forward.

New environmental standards and regulations require corporations to monitor their biodiversity risks and offset their impact on nature. ETH Spin-off SimplexDNA has developed a methodology that enables global biodiversity monitoring.

Agriculture is a very labour-intensive business and finding the workforce is increasingly difficult. Wouldn’t it be great to let a robot do the work?
