Cultural and Religious Diversity

Cultural and religious diversity relates to the sets of beliefs, values and practices that people have grown up with or are most familiar with, which might differ from those prelevant in Switzerland or at ETH Zurich.  Value systems might vary depending on origin, faith, nationality etc. One's faith or worldview can be expressed through actions, for example by participating in church services, holidays or activities, performing certain rituals or wearing items with religious or symbolic meaning. This can include wearing certain items of clothing or jewelry, such as a kippah, a headscarf, or a cross pendant. The freedom to do so (the so-called freedom of religion and conscience) is a fundamental right and is enshrined in the externe SeiteSwiss Federal Constitution (Article 15). Unbiased information and discussion about one’s values promotes mutual understanding and creates the foundation for good cooperation in research, teaching and innovation. ETH Zurich strongly supports this kind of exchange.
