FAQ

The information below applies to the ESOP programme.

We accept applications for the academic year due to begin in the following year (autumn semester) during the international application window (November to mid-December). Applications must be submitted via eApply. Applications for the spring semester are reserved for ETH Zurich students only.

The ESOP programme lasts for the standard duration of your chosen Master’s programme.

The grant is paid out in three or four instalments. Each individual instalment is issued at the beginning of the semester. You must have completed your semester enrolment in order to receive these payments.

The grant is paid out to your personal bank or post office account in Switzerland.

It is not possible to transfer the grant to a different study programme than the one originally chosen.

No, the grant will be suspended. However, your tuition fees will continue to be waived. If your semester on exchange prolongs the duration of your studies, the grant will be based on the standard number of semesters required to complete your study programme. If your semester on exchange does not affect the duration of your studies, you will not be entitled to receive any further grant instalments.

Please inform the ESOP office (Financial Aid Office) about your plans to spend a semester on exchange.

You will continue to receive the grant during the period in which you are completing your Master’s thesis at another university, insofar as this does not exceed the standard duration of your study programme.

In programmes with a compulsory internship with a duration of at least 10 weeks, the grant will, as a rule, not be provided during this time. After returning the scholarship continues during the normal duration of studies.

If you are undertaking a voluntary internship, it is up to you to decide whether you wish to continue receiving the grant during this period or whether it should be suspended. Completing an internship does not entitle you to receive grant payments beyond the standard duration of your study programme. Please inform the ESOP office (Financial Aid Office) about your plans to undertake an internship.

ESOP and assistantship are compatible as long as the studies are not compromised. If your studies must be extended due to the assistantship you must finance the additional semester on your own.
