ETH students may apply for the terms only in the above constellation. Other constellations are not permitted, i.e. you cannot take only one term!
* Normally the language certificate, adhering to the pertaining requirements, must be valid at the start of the exchange at the host university. Note that this depends on the exchange semester. If you wish to go on an exchange in the Spring Semester your exchange will start later than if you want to participate in the Autumn Semester, therefore the language certificate must accordingly be valid for longer. Your English test must be dated on or after the 1st of January (two years prior) for Term 1 commencement or the 1st of June (two years prior) for Term 3 commencement. Apart from the period of validity, note also the overall scores of individual language certificates. Note: Exchange students only have to achieve the 'overall' score for IELTS and TOEFL, (currently 6.5 IELTS or 90 TOEFL (iBT) for exchange students) but not the detailed results ('sub tests') listed on UNSW's website on language requirements.
As a pilot scheme (not reflected on the website), UNSW accepts the Swiss Matura with grade 5 in English or the German Abitur with grade 12 in English, as long as it is not more than 10 years old at the start of the exchange.
Even Cambridge Diplomas (CAE, CPE) are not valid indefinitely, respectively that host universities publish regulations to their accepted validity on their website.
If you think that you are exempt from a language test because of the information given under "Senior Secondary Qualifications" (check validity; unlikely to apply) or "Post-Secondary or Tertiary Qualifications in English" (check validity and criteria "full-time" and "consequity"), check this carefully and obtain individual written confirmation from the university. If a confirmation from ETH Zurich about English lectures and examinations is required, clarify with your department whether it can issue such a confirmation. The Student Exchange Office can neither advise nor support you; the language certificate is entirely your responsibility.
Listed above are only the language requirements of the respective university. The external page Australian Government also has language requirements for certain citizenships (in reference to student visas). Students need to check and meet these too.
