Swiss Mobility programme
The Swiss Mobility programme enables students to undertake an exchange within Switzerland, particularly in the French- or Italian-speaking region.
Application deadlines
- 1 April for the following Autumn Semester
- 1 October for the following Spring Semester
Students may apply at any time to conduct Master’s, Bachelor’s thesis and other project work at another Swiss university. The application process should be completed two months before the exchange begins.
Swiss universities offer excellent teaching that can usefully complement your studies. A stay at another university broadens your horizons and your personal network. In addition, a stay in French- or Italian-speaking Switzerland allows you to deepen your language skills and get to know other cultures. Thanks to the common school and legal system, the change involves little effort compared to other exchange programmes

Students who cross a language border receive a scholarship of CHF 1000 per semester.
EPFL
Exchange between the two ETHs has a particular significance in the framework of Swiss Mobility. It is highly favoured and specifically encouraged.
- The scholarship for an exchange at EPFL amounts to CHF 1500 per semester (independent of the effective number of months). For the scholarship no special application is required. At the given time you will receive a scholarship contract by email, which you should sign and upload to Mobility-Online.
- The administrative barriers are minimal and the curricula of the two universities are easy to coordinate.
Further offers of support
chevron_right Check whether you have exhausted all possible offersThe host universities rightfully expect students to follow courses in the respective course language. No language test is required, simply the personal responsibility of students in this matter.
The Student Exchange Office provides no proof of language competence since the Training Agreement signed by the home university and the host institution is sufficient. If a letter is needed, you may involve your department.
Process
For an unproblematic and fast online application, start collecting the required documents and information early. And please read the instructions for applying online carefully.
ETH Zurich reserves the right to exclude students from future exchange programmes if they withdraw from an exchange without sufficient grounds for doing so (examination failure, illness, accident).
Note on Lausanne
Exchange students being hosted in Lausanne have the possibility to apply for accommodation with the foundation for student housing in Lausanne (FMEL). A certificate from the EPFL mentioning the exchange dates is required in order to be eligible for accommodation at FMEL.
